Despite her roots firmly being set in North Carolina, Bruce has not shied away from experiencing new cultures which has seen her play across various leagues in Europe.
She’s experienced football in Scotland, Sweden, Cyprus and Iceland before landing in the West Country and the 28-year-old is certainly loving life in Bristol.
“I love the city of Bristol. I go into the centre of town a lot and seen a couple of musical at the Hippodrome, I’m just trying to live life like a British person and I’m loving it so far – it’s really nice,” said Bruce.
The former Canon School collegiate athlete had her first taste of the Barclays Championship last weekend as she made her debut in the Robins’ 1-0 victory over Coventry United. Her focus is now firmly on a first successful runout at home in front of the City fans.
“We’re so excited for our first official home game of the season,” she continued, “we had an amazing pre-season and win last weekend; the goal is to get another and a clean sheet this weekend.
“The fans here are insane! At our first game of the season, I could hear them singing my name and I just thought ‘wow - I’m not even from here’. They also had an American flag up, a North Carolina flag, they’ve got an Ireland flag up – they’re representing everyone and that’s so cool.”
Despite kickstarting the season with a victory, Bruce and the wider City squad want to push on and work towards fulfilling their incredibly exciting potential on the pitch.
“Overall, we’re happy with how we played last weekend because we took away three points and a clean sheet.
“But, with how we performed over pre-season I think we expected more of ourselves. We’ve been dealing with a few injuries but hopefully this weekend we’ll see a progression in our performance as we push towards our potential.”
